Journal; zen.

Tonight is my parent's annual Christmas gift exchange party. It is one of my favourite nights of the year. A bunch of my family and, friends of my parents, come and all get drunk and play a big gift exchange game. It is very fun. One year I ended up with a teapot, though. So, that was a little saddening because I was trying for a bucket of Double Bubble.

Tomorrow I leave for New Jersey. Happy. Happy happy happy.

Journal; Elvis Costello ate the mediocre music.

While skimming the net I came across a band named Margot & the Nuclear So and So's and thought, "Margot, that's cool. Nuclear So and So's, that's lame." Yet, intrigued, I wanted to hear what Margot had to say. Then I read that the band is named after Margot Tenenbaum! My hopes were raised. Yet, fuck, what trudged out of my speakers was all-points mediocre. I gave up on them after a few songs.

What a waste of a half-cool name. Whatever, their MySpace page is terrible anyway; it takes forever to load. I blame their bloated self image. Most of the page consists of animated drawings and embedded videos, which is too common these days. Many bands need to decide if they are actually bands or just excuses to think of nonsensical names, photoshop (colour digital) images into black & white and write with crayons.

So, I was pissed and I still am. The aforementioned "band" is currently devaluing my hard drive by more than two-hundred megabytes. Yet, they may actually be an ok band. Really, I do not care enough to give them another chance right now, but I can see myself doing it eventually.

Anyway, something in me took action, I thought, "Hey! Elvis Costello. Yes. I shall go to HMV and buy Armed Forces and This Year's Model." So I did. I have not bought anything for myself in a long time, but I still felt the heat of guilt when the register's LED glowed $34. Oh, shutup random inner voice, this music is worthy; I do not regret my purchase.

Pump it up!

Poem; Badge

He was gone,
But she still wore it,
Like a badge,
Like a medal,
Like a hug,
She thought,
"
This is who I became,
This is who I am,
This is who I'll die.
"
She wanted the world to know,
She loves him still.

Journal; a squiddy revenge.

I saw this in the newspaper today and had to post it. Bizarro is probably my favourite comic strip. I definitely recommend a visit to the Bizarro blog.

Journal; a poem to come.

Alright, so I do not have any true content yet and I do not feel like posting any of my older pieces of writing. So, now to write, but what to write? No, it's not a matter of silence, I have plenty to say, it's a matter of time. I am setting a goal; this weekend shall not only see the completion of school papers and study, but also of a poem. One poem. A good poem. By Sunday night.

Note; What is Sqvid?

Here, upon the net, I lay claim to a rogue domain; tribute to those who forged our alphabet and those who rule the deep. Kept here are the pieces of my writing that I am willing to show the world. It is, in short, a journal. Entries will be made; likely non-fiction. Poetry will be played; with indulgence. Prose will be writ; life coated in fiction, or fantastical tales, or whatever happens off my pen. Sqvid is a representation of myself.

The Character of Sqvid
- All entries' titles are preceded by a labeling of the type of entry they are and followed directly by a semi-colon, i.e. Journal; Title of Entry.
- Ports O' Call are my friend's places on the net.
- I drew the squid on the sidebar.
- Sqvid is intentionally spelled with a "v" and is to be pronounced "squid."
- You may mail me at chad@sqvid.net.

I will expand on this entry as time passes.

Journal; setting sail.

Alas! A proper piece of the net! And for what? Well, you shall see...
