Poem; Why I love You, Part I

Why I love You, Part I
for Maggie

Toe-socks and headbands,
Bracelets and bangs,
A smile and dimple,
Nicknames and old slangs.

Suspenders and t-shirts,
Imprinted with wit,
Fine slender legs,
That crack when you sit.

Hangouts and hangnails,
Chicken and soup,
Eyelashes flutter,
Long sideburns in swoop.

A necklace and plaid skirt,
Old brooch and cloche,
Hi-top Chuck Taylors,
In loving decay.

Apples devoured,
Bread eaten plain,
A woman empowered,
A kid just the same.

Nose stud and knuckles,
Blue eyes and red hair,
Dear - you're so cute,
It's almost unfair.
